If you’re one of the over 8 million people who follow Alicia Keys on Twitter, you got a pleasant surprise today.
For the last eight months, the singer’s been holed up in the studio working on her fifth album. Today, she gave fans a taste of what’s to come, tweeting out a link to her latest song, “New Day.”
This summer jam has Keys channeling her inner Beyoncé. Heavy on the percussion and the positivity, this one’s bound to get people out on the dancefloor.
Yesterday, Keys revealed in a video message to fans that her new album was inspired by the 2010 birth of her son, Egypt. The singer says motherhood has given her a new sense of herself.
“I’ve stepped into womanhood and I’m not afraid to be the whole woman that I am,” she said. “Flaws and all.”
The “Fallin’” singer also said that she just feels more comfortable with who she is and that will reflect in her music.
“It’s not about being perfect,” she said. “It’s about being honest and truthful.”
Keys has yet to announce the title or the release date of her upcoming record.
