Yesterday we got the sad news of Mary Tyler Moore’s passing. Moore, who broke glass ceilings before “glass ceiling” was even a term, passed away at 80, with her husband and friends at her side, a rep said.

Today we had Carl Reiner, the creator of the Dick Van Dyke Show on Jeff and the Showgram. He talked about casting Moore for the show

“I had seen 23 people and none of them seemed to be quite right,” Reiner remembers “[Moore] read the first line and I heard what I call ‘a ping’ in her voice, and I said, young lady come with me.”

The rest is history. Listen to the full interview below.
