It was February and March of 2010, when I got to know Chelsea King and Amber Dubois. I truly did. They have both inspired my life ever since. I got to know them through my heart and their spirit. I’m not a spiritual person, but I believe I have tapped into my soul where I can feel. I have learned to see my mom and my brothers and Chelsea and Amber through my heart — They are everywhere.
It was in 2009 when Amber went missing. It was in 2010, when Chelsea King went for her run. They would meet in Heaven and inspire a community from then on.
I was sitting in a chair on the field at Poway High School. It was Chelsea’s memorial service. I heard Brent King say, “Our world needs hope and to have hope, we need to GIVE. Please GIVE your heart and time to honor my daughter. If you want to remember Chelsea, then please GIVE.”
So, I did.
I GIVE, because I want to remember Chelsea and Amber together. They taught me how to live my life. I do things because I never stopped GIVING and trying to understand what that word means since I heard Brent King speak.
The word GIVE does not mean, write a check. Yes, that’s nice, but more importantly, it’s about GIVING LOVE and GIVING YOU. I believe I have learned to do that.
I love Chelsea’s family. I love Amber’s family.
I am one of five guys that started “Finish Chelsea’s Run” in March of 2010. I am blessed that Todd Velasquez called me to help him out and to finish Chelsea’s actual route at Lake Hodge. Todd along with David Jewell, Aaron Acevedo, Andy Voggenthaler, and I worked hard to get at least 100 people to run Lake Hodges. We figured out what route she was running and we made a statement by FINISHING IT for Chelsea. We wanted 100 but we didn’t get 100. We got over 3,500 people to show up. It was an amazing feeling.
Now, Finish Chelsea’s Run is at Balboa Park. It’s on Saturday March 4th. Tonight at 6:00 on line registration closes. If you miss the deadline, please just show up. It starts at 7:30.
Brent and Kelly talk about their daughter Chelsea King on Jeff and the Showgram.
