Dickie is the KYXY Kritter of the week at your Rancho Coastal Humane Society. He’s a 1 year old, 15 pound, Dachshund mix.

Dachshunds were developed in Germany to hunt badgers. That’s where the name comes from. “Dachs” is German for Badger. “Hund” means Dog. They’re Badger Dogs. And, apparently, in Germany they don’t need to stinking badgers.

Dickie’s new family will need to spend lots of time with him to help him build confidence and adjust to his new life. He prefers to be the only dog in his home. He can go from laps on naps to full-on zooms around the house. Dickie was transferred to Rancho Coastal Humane Society together from another shelter through the FOCAS program.

The $145 adoption fee for Dickie includes medical exam, vaccinations, neuter, and microchip. For more information call 760-753-6413, visit Rancho Coastal Humane Society at 389 Requeza Street in Encinitas, or log on to SDpets.org. Kennels and Cattery open 11 AM to 5 PM every day but Tuesday.
