Every Friday Movie Mom Nell Minow visits Jeff and the Showgram to give us the lowdown on new movies coming to a theater near you!
Baywatch: The movie is based on the T.V. show of the same name, and stars Zac Efron, Dwayne Johnson and Priyanka Chopra.
It opens this weekend with a Rotten Tomato reading of 19 percent. Yikes! Movie Mom, it seems, is in the minority because she really liked it.
“It took a silly old T.V. show and it paid affectionate tribute and a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor,” she said, going on to note that Baywatch the T.V. show was THE most popular show in history. “It’s been shown in more countries to more people than any other T.V. Show. The reason is, you don’t need to speak English, you don’t need to understand anything about America, it’s pretty people running on the beach in slow motion in very tiny bathing suits.”
David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson both appear in the film. Movie Mom cautions parents, there is a lot gore and some graphic male nudity.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales: It’s not as good as the first Pirates movie or the second, but fans of the franchise will like it. Movie Mom doubts that the film is powerful enough to bring non-fans into the fold.
“The special effects are great, The visuals are great, the stunts are great. There’s too much Johnny Depp. There’s not enough Kiera Knightly, she’s only in very, very briefly and the plot is so over the top,” she says.
Movie Mom tells the story of meeting John F. Kennedy on his last birthday.
