MCAS Miramar Air Show: A Salute to Vietnam Veterans8 a.m. (Friday through Sunday), MCAS Miramar The Miramar Air Show returns to San Diego’s skies with incredible aircraft performances over MCAS Miramar through Sunday. The gates open at 8 a.m. each day, with the action starting around 9 a.m. The show is free, on both ends of the flight line, if you bring your own seating. Otherwise, tickets range from $12 in the grandstands to the $195 VIP Devil Dog Alley Chalet ticket, which includes shaded and lounge seating, food, a hosted bar and a commemorative Air Show coin and program.
Pacific Islander Festival 8:45 a.m., Ski Beach (1600 Vacation Road in Pacific Beach)
Pacific Beach’s Ski Beach will be filled with booths, craft and culture villages, vendors and loads and loads of yummy food this weekend for the Pacific Islander Festival. The festival is free and runs through Sunday.
Julian Apple Days Festival 10 a.m., Menghini Winery It’s that time of year again! Julian’s Apple Days Festival celebrates the start of fall and the delicious fruit associated with it. Stop by Menghini Winery for music, dancing, tractor displays, children’s games, a beer and wine garden and of course – apple pie! The festival runs through Sunday. Tickets range from free to $5
San Diego Padres Vs. Colorado Rockies Petco Park The Padres take on the Rockies today at 1:40 p.m. Today is Military Appreciation Day. Tickets start at $15.
Impossible Science Festival 11 a.m., Fleet Science Center Kids and adults alike will get a chance to go hands-on with this fun, interactive science festival in Balboa Park this weekend. Jason Latimer hosts the third annual event, which explores the science behind seemingly impossible things in daily life. The event runs from Saturday to Sunday and tickets range from free to $22.95.
Fall Home & Garden Show 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Del Mar Fairgrounds Get inspired for this season’s home improvement projects at the 28th Annual Fall Home & Garden Show this weekend in Del Mar. Peruse dozens of exhibitors – from solar panel experts and stucco pros to bathroom and kitchen renovation specialists – all under one roof. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets start at $6.
El Universal: 100 Years in the Life of Mexico & the World Open 24 Hours, Arts District at Liberty Station The photographic exhibition, “El Universal: 100 Years in the Life of Mexico & the World,” is on display at the Arts District at Liberty Station through Sept. 28. Through large photographs and reprints of front-page stories, the exhibit celebrates the centennial of the founding of “El Universal,” the nationally-circulated newspaper of Mexico. Part of this exhibit is currently on display in Tijuana City Hall’s Grand Central Patio; the other part, which includes 50 panels, is being shown at Liberty Station, including the first edition of the newspaper, published on Oct. 1, 1916. The exhibit is free and open to the public 24 hours a day.
San Diego Restaurant Week Hours of Participating Restaurants Vary, Locations Vary
Foodies, you’ll really savor this one: San Diego Restaurant Week is back! The second edition of the 2017 food event returns Sunday, spanning more than a dozen neighborhoods in San Diego County, from North to South and East to West. Restaurants will offer special prix fixe lunch and/or dinner menus featuring two to three courses, priced at $10 to $50. It’s a good opportunity to try some of those places on your San Diego dining bucket list. Treat yourself!
Bunnyfest 10 a.m., Balboa Park Visitors Center Bring your bunny or rabbit and come out to San Diego House Rabbit Society’s annual fundraiser, Bunnyfest. The bunny-themed event includes craft vendors, service booths (with vet and animal services), children’s activities and more. The festival is free.
Sunday Champagne Brunch Cruise 10:30 a.m., Flagship Cruises and Events
Settle into the New Year in style by hopping abroad a luxury yacht and cruising around the San Diego Bay. The two-hour cruise will take brunchers past the Downtown San Diego bay as they enjoy a gourmet buffet, mimosas and live music. Tickets start at $38.70.
Bill Maher at Humphreys 8 p.m., Humphreys Concerts by the Bay Comedian Bill Maher, the host of HBO’s “Real Time,” brings his stand-up act to Humphreys. The popular comedian is known for his political humor. Tickets start at $110.
Cinema Under The Stars: “The Blues Brothers” 8 p.m., Cinema Under the Stars in Mission Hills Watch a movie under the moonlight at the outdoor theater in Mission Hills (4040 Goldfinch St.). On the venue’s screening schedule this weekend: the classic “The Blues Brothers,” starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as band members reunited. The movie starts at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $17 to $19.
